Young, who actually hails from Ontario, Canada, had a lot of not-nice things to say about the South. In retrospect, Young wrote this in his memoir:

Alabama richly deserved the shot Lynyrd Skynyrd gave me with their great record. I don’t like my words when I listen to it today. They are accusatory and condescending, not fully thought out, too easy to misconstrue.

However, there remains a lot of truth to his words.

Besides the fast food joints? I’m not really sure. There’s a great bakery in Mountain Brook’s English village that serves fantastic croissants and coffee, that may be a bit out of the way. It’s the Continental Bakery if you’re interested.
